In 1991 Tufts University published a book entitled biomarkers- which set out the 10 biggest factors that influenced how well we aged. There was a very clear order of importance so those at the top were the most important factors:
  • The amount of muscle you have
  • The strength of your muscles
  • Metabolic rate
  • Bodyfat percentage
  • Aerobic capacity
  • Blood sugar tolerance
  • Total cholesterol:HDL cholesterol ratio
  • Blood pressure
  • Bone density
  • Temperature regulation
  • Since then even more information has come to light about the way our body’s age. In actual fact the rate that we age is directly related to the speed at which our cells age- this is influenced by internal and external factors such as genetics, inflammation in the body, exposure to toxins and hormonal imbalances. The reason the biomarkers regulate aging is that they reduce the exposure too or the damage caused by these factors.
